First off: hello! My name is Becky, and it is a pleasure to meet you. I am one of the newbies here at the Creativity Exploratory. I work as an intern for the fairly new fabrication laboratory (FAB Lab), and basically, over this next semester, I plan to write a procedural and safety document
for the equipment in the new lab, assist in advertising the lab through creation of fliers, events, and word-of-mouth, and help create an innovative space that will be utilized to its full potential in the near future. Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t just get people coffee!
To give you a little background on me personally, I grew up in the fairly rural town of Lapeer, MI. With everyone around me going into agriculture and crop science, I figured “what the heck? Let’s be a little different.” So, I’m a professional writing major in the College of Arts and Letters, and loving every minute of it. Writing in any form is my passion, and I like to think that, with a little help, I can make a living out of it some day. I am a freshman, and thusly don’t have the perfect picture of what I want to do for the rest of my life, but I am almost 100% sure that I will be focusing on the Digital and Technical Writing track of my major, and hopefully pursuing a minor or cognate in Public Relations. I would love to get a book published some day, but in the meantime, a position in this basic direction would suit me just fine.
When I’m not at the CE, working at the cafeteria, or hacking at my obscenely large piles of homework, I enjoy making snowmen, reading, writing, volunteering with Alternative Spring Break, spending time with friends, and being the world’s biggest goofball. I like to think of myself as fairly open-minded and fun, which is exactly why I decided to join the team at the CE. It is the perfect environment for me to gain the experience I need, while meeting exciting new people and working on projects that you wouldn’t normally get to try. For example, I am very interested in the 517*theory project on campus graffiti. Where else do you get an opportunity like that?
Anyway, I’ve probably blabbed on enough. If you have any questions, or just want to chat with me over a cup of Joe, you can reach me at my Twitter account, or through my blog.
Thanks for reading! Hope to see your lovely faces in the CE soon!
